Breda station is not only a place where travellers flow in and out, but also a particularly beautiful building to see. It was even named building of the year 2017! In addition, from the parking deck at the station you have a beautiful view over the city. The station is also home to many different stores and nice restaurants.

The modern Breda Station is equipped for a growing number of travellers. By 2020, the number of users will have grown from approximately 27,000 to 57,000. On the 7 tracks and 3 platforms 16 trains can arrive and depart per hour, 4 of these are high speed trains.

The new bus platform will provide space for 20 buses, the timetable of which will be closely aligned with that of the trains. In and around the station there will be space for more than 6,000 bicycles and on the roof of the station there is parking for more than 720 cars.

Between the Belcrum and the center side of the new station is a wide underground passage with stores. On both sides of the station there are orderly squares, with wide roads providing good accessibility.

Building of the year

Breda's station building has been named the best building of 2017. "Breda towers above the other projects in complexity and size," said the six-member jury of the Dutch Architects' Association (BNA).
Clients of the complex are ProRail, NS Stations and Municipality of Breda. Architect Koen van Velsen spent 12 years working on the structure, which provides space for a train and bus station and offices and commercial spaces. In addition, the building also contains 150 homes, bicycle storage for 6,000 bicycles and parking for 750 cars.
The jury therefore called the station building, with its many interpretations, "a special design" and according to them it "adds a piece of the city to the station area".
