Deze 130-meter lange muurschildering, gemaakt door Joren Joshua, is een ode aan de ‘vergeten broer van Vincent van Gogh’, en de Backer & Rueb machinefabriek. Backer & Rueb kreeg eind vorige eeuw grote bekendheid door hun vervaardiging van stoomlocomotieven. Hun bekendste, en ook meest karakteristieke locomotief werd ‘Backertje met huilogen’ genoemd, omdat het net leek alsof de locomotief huilde. In 1993 werd de fabriek gesloopt. Read more

CRYING TRAINS
This 130-meter long mural, created by Joren Joshua, is an ode to the "forgotten brother of Vincent van Gogh," and the Backer & Rueb machine factory. Backer & Rueb gained great fame at the end of the last century for their manufacture of steam locomotives. Their most famous and characteristic locomotive was called 'Backertje met huilogen' (Backer with crying eyes), because it looked like the locomotive was crying. In 1993 the factory was demolished. 

THE FORGOTTEN BROTHER OF VAN GOGH
The painting also features a man with bright orange hair, this is Cornelius (Cor) van Gogh, yes, the younger brother of Vincent van Gogh. Just like Vincent, Cor had an eventful life. Edwin Wiekens Because of his technical background he worked for Backer & Rueb for a while. However, he did not like the Netherlands, so he went travelling and ended up in South Africa. There he became a technical draftsman for the South African Railway Company. Eventually Cor joined the Boer Command during the Second Boer War, but he was soon wounded. While in the hospital, Cor shot himself at the age of 32.

This mural is part of the Van Gogh Murals, in collaboration with Zuidlijn and Van Gogh Brabant. For this project, five murals will be realised in the railroad zones of Helmond, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Breda and Tilburg. Joren Joshua worked on the mural for almost two weeks and received help from Marije Maria, Ilse Weisfelt, Thomas & Jurgen and Fernandoleon.
