The Hollandse Bossen estate consists of woods, meadows, fields and avenues. The estate near Baarle-Nassau connects various nature reserves in Brabant and Flanders. The 85-hectare estate is located on the transition from the higher sandy soils to the lower stream valleys. The border region between the Netherlands and Flanders still has many sand tracks, landscape elements, forests and small differences in height.

The Hollandse Bossen connects nature areas such as the Chaamse Beek, the Chaamse Bossen and the Merkske. Connecting nature areas is important for the movement and exchange of plants and animals. And as a hiker you get the feeling that all those nature reserves are a whole. To further strengthen this, Natuurmonumenten is converting agricultural land on the estate into nature. Natuurmonumenten is very pleased that the previous private owner has the confidence that Natuurmonumenten will take good care of the Hollandse Bossen. The province of Noord-Brabant has subsidized the purchase. There are opportunities for further development of the forest structure, restoring pools and herbaceous fields.
